Smacking stuff. Hitting things just to see how far they’ll go. Such a practice is frowned upon in the real world (unless you’re a sports superstar). In the realm of Flash gaming, however, it’s a task we highly encourage! Although they’re not a member of a notable sub-genre in particular, these “launching” games like the titles below are reflex-based action games that challenge you to see how far you can throw or knock something. Maybe it’s a ball, maybe it’s a cat, maybe it’s an overweight geek who won’t stop speaking in 1337. Either way, we’re happy to hit and hit again, just as long as we can master the fine art of smacking stuff just to see how far it goes!
Below we’ve rounded up a few of our favorite games from this overlooked (but awesome) sub-genre. Call it the “Best of the Launching Games”, ’cause that’s what we’re calling it, too!
Monkey Kick Off – What. A. Crazy. Game! Monkey Kick Off is a game where you don’t smack anything other than a big brown ball. There are no power-ups, no crazy abilities to unlock or unleash, and the only real achievement you can earn is being better than your friends. But, there’s something about being a monkey, kicking a ball, and seeing how far you can get it to roll that’s oh-so very fun. Press any key to send the ball flying, and see if you can make it go 4,000 Monkey Meters to the Monkey Village. You won’t be sorry if you do!

Throw Me – This game will take you by surprise. Throw Me is a bit abstract in some ways, but the general “launching” theme stays the same, though now you’re going for height as well as distance. Swing the moue around to get some momentum going, then tap the spacebar to release your little eyeball cloud of… things. You can sprout balloons while in the air to gain some distance, but your stamina is limited, to try to use it only when you can hit one of the warm air lift spots scattered about the clouds. Such a strange and wonderful game, you won’t be able to stop playing!

Homerun in Berzerk Land – Homerun in Berzerk Land is by far the most insane smacking game ever created (other than, perhaps, Nanaca Crash). Armed with smacking materials of the highest order, you control one of several characters whose job it is to hit a geek (yes, the video game-loving computer nerd type_ and see how far you can make him fly. You can use the arrows to maneuver said geek in mid-air, unleashing special abilities at the appropriate time to gain some serious distance. There are dozens of unlockables, including stats to manage, experience to gain, coins to earn/purchase, and items to check out, making this a rich, very good-looking smacking game to check out! Also give Berzerk Ball a try, the game’s free expansion!
